Marilyn West, who received the Distinguished Alumni Award from the Alumni Council in 2006, will be addressing those gathered for Waynesburg University’s Charter Day Convocation on March 24^th. Charter Day is an annual celebration which marks the charter by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The celebration includes a procession of faculty and the recognition of students honored in Who’’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. This year is the 159^th anniversary of the charter. Marilyn is honored to have been chosen and always looks forward to returning to her alma mater.

Meaghan West and Erica Cage attended the grand opening of the new downtown Hilton Hotel. The hotel occupies the historic Miller & Rhodes department store building and is considered a key downtown restoration project. Mayor Dwight C. Jones and other city officials were on hand to cut the ceremonial ribbon. Meaghan and Erica were able to tour the hotel and both came away impressed with the facility.

In 1926, the first Black History Month was recognized. We have set up a page as a tribute to African–American men and women past and present, whose accomplishments are great and historical. We included biographies of social rights activists, leaders, scientists, actors/actresses, athletes and writers. There is also a Civil Rights timeline and links to resources on African–American history.
