Central Virginia Food Bank Volunteer Appreciation

CVFB Appreciation

M. H. West & Co., Inc. is proud to support the Central Virginia Food Bank. In fact, WEST’s CEO and Chair Marilyn West serves on the organization’s board. Each year WEST associates, led by coordinator Justin House, help pack nutritious food for area school children in need. CVFB showed their appreciation by hosting a lunch for all the volunteers.

The food was great, but even better were the positive statistics shared after the meal. This past school year the CVFB delivered over sixty thousand backpacks full of food to area students and as they pointed out, many times the students will share that food with their family members who are also in need. The food backpack program has grown from 230 students to over 2000 students in just three years and is definitely having a positive impact in the community.

Brunch & Budget with Senator Mark Warner

Brunch & Budget with Senator Mark Warner

M.H. West & Co., Senior Health and Business Officer, Michael J. Byrnes recently attended the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce event, “Brunch & Budget with Senator Mark Warner.”  The event included approximately 150 business leaders from across the Hampton Roads area to listen to Senator Warner provide his thoughts and plans for reducing the $14 trillion national debt.

Senator Warner discussed the nation’s budget and its many components stating that none of the budget components should be off limits to cuts or reforms.  He observed that reducing waste throughout government and providing reforms to programs and spending are a large aspect of reducing the national debt. Also, Senator Warner indicated that the cuts cannot be restricted to just the 14% of the budget that has continuously been the target of legislative budget cuts over the years.  Entitlement reforms, tax increases, and spending cuts all have to be part of the equation for progress to be achieved, he stated, further noting that the growing national debt was the single biggest threat to our country’s existence and future.

Also discussed by Senator Warner were the “gang of six” Senators, that he was co-founder of,  (3 Republicans and 3 Democrats) that were attempting to prepare recommendations on the budget as a bipartisan commission. (more…)
