West & Co., Inc. participated in the July 10 “Kick-Off” meeting for Persistently Dangerous School Grantees (Generation II) of the Employment and Training Administration in Philadelphia on Saturday, July 10. WEST is serving as the Technical Assistance (TA) provider for the Generation I and Generation II grantees and will be working with school districts in Philadelphia (PA), Baltimore (MD) and Schnectady (NY). Also included is the Bershire Union Free School District in New York.
The firm has provided technical assistance and other support to school districts, other governmental agencies and non-profit organizations supporting at risk youth including ETA’s Youth Offender Reentry and School District (Gang Prevention and Intervention.) initiatives. WEST associate Justin House was one of 8000 people to attend a motivational seminar at the Richmond Coliseum on May 20th. The all day event included many high profile speakers such as: Terry Bradshaw, Rudy Giuliani, Sarah Palin and Colin Powell. Increasing productivity, setting goals and achieving them, take-charge leadership and making it through a crisis were all discussed during the day.
M. H. West & Co., Inc. associate Erica Cage is a member of the Greater Richmond Red Cross Leadership Development Council Class of 2010. Recently, she toured the American Red Cross Disaster Supply Warehouse. Erica commented on the size of the facility, noting that it is as large as 12 football fields. The warehouse can hold enough supplies for 500,000 people for 3 days.
M. H. West & Co., Inc.’s CEO who is also a member of the Richmond Chapter of Continental Societies, Inc, joined two other members of the organization’s health committee, Allison Lawrence and Aldora Turner, to deliver baskets to the pediatric unit of Bon Secours St. Mary’s Hospital on April 1. With the assistance of WEST staff members, Continentals stuffed some 50 baskets with educational toys and games and a very few nutritious snacks for the Easter holiday season. Also the beneficiary of the Easter Baskets were the children in a local domestic violence shelter of the YWCA. The Health Committee of the Richmond Chapter is working with area youth and parents to help promote healthy lifestyles and practices. Continental Societies, Inc., a public service organization, dedicated to the socio-economic and cultural welfare of underprivileged children and youth, was organized in 1956 and incorporated nationally in 1972. The Richmond Chapter was organized in 1976. It embraces 42 Chapters in 20 states, the District of Columbia and Bermuda with a total membership of approximately 900.
