VHHA Health Care Issues Meeting

Thursday, February 10th, 2011

M. H. West & Co., Inc. associates Mike Byrnes, Julian House and Joe Armstrong attended the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association’s Health Care Issues Meeting at the Jefferson Hotel. This meeting provided an in-depth review of 2011 health legislative issues being discussed at the General Assembly. Health care facilities are among the top three employers in 60% of Virginia’s localities, so if the proposed cuts were to take effect, almost 3,000 jobs would be at risk.

After the Health Care Issues Meeting, participants enjoyed lunch in the Jefferson Hotel’s Grand Ballroom. The guest speaker at the luncheon was Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli. Mr Cuccinelli discussed the status of his lawsuit against the federal health care bill. He also predicted that the Supreme Court will not grant his request for an expedited hearing and that he expects the ultimate decision on the lawsuit to be given around June 2012.
