Therapeutic Community’s Open House Wows Its Audience!

Big PUSH UP to the staff and members of the therapeutic community (TC) at the Greensville Work Center for putting on a first class program for its open house. U.N.S.T.O.P.P.A.B.L.E. stands for Unified Neighbors Seeking To Overcome People Places And Behaviors Lifting Expectations. This family really was unstoppable at the open house. The program culminated a month long preparation that ignited this program and bonded its members in a very positive way.

The open house was held in the work center yard under a large tent. Two of the TC members Mr. S. Debraux and Mr. J. Clark served as masters of ceremony and introduced the program components. Mr. D. Vargo, Unit Manager, gave the welcome, followed by the invocation by Pastor C. Parham. Mrs. Curley Sellers one of the staff and the Assistant Senior Coordinator, Mr. B. Chappelle, shared the history of the TC’s development. Though rocky at first, the inmates found a way to come together and make the program work. The program consisted of a therapeutic skit performed by the TC family, singing by the Unstoppables and the Unstoppable Rappers,. introduction of the family members by elder G. Elrey and house manager R. Flora and closing remarks by a distinguished list of presenters. These were: Mr. D. Hilliard, Sr. Coordinator; Mr. R. Fleming, Eastern Regional Administrator; Ms. S. Richardson, Virginia Program Manager; Mr. D. Garraghty, Chief Warden; Mrs. C. R. Sellers, CWS; and Mrs. E. Rawls-Darden, CSW

After the program and a marvelous lunch prepared by inmates and staff and served in the yard, the family members, staff and guests retired to the TC dorm. There amid much frivolity and music the ribbon was cut by Mr. D. Vargo the unit manager and accompanied by the treatment staff,

Mrs. E. Rawls-Darden and Mrs. C. R. Sellers and the entire TC family, danced down one of the bunk

isles to the delight of the guests. Cake was served and the guests had an opportunity to tour the dorm and talk to inmates about the program and their involvement.

The true success of this open house will be the continuation of the intensity, fellowship and dedication exhibited at the open house to create a dynamic, involved and successful program. GOOD LUCK U.N.S.T.O.P.P.A.B.L.E.S!
